2019-2020 Annual Report of District 17
Brothers all. We had an active Masonic year within the Lodges of District #17 up to the point when it was no longer prudent to meet as Masons in Lodge assembled. The Fraternity has existed from time immemorial and will continue to do so. This is our opportunity to be creative, adapt and see this through as all brothers and fellows have done before. We eagerly await the time when we can again meet face to face in a tiled Lodge.
The District #17 annual meeting was hosted by Deadwood Lodge #7 on November 5th, 2019. The meeting was attended by the Most Worshipful Grand Master and several of the Grand Lodge line. As special thanks to Past Grand Master Mike Rodman who hosted a wonderful meal at his own expense for the attendees. All district Lodges were present and provided an update to the Brethren on activities within their Lodge and the community.
Official visits were conducted at all District #17 Lodges:
- Deadwood #7: October 10th 2019
- Golden Star #9 Lead: December 5th 2019
- Spearfish #18: October 3rd 2019
- Olive Branch #47 Sturgis: November 6th 2019
- Cedar #124 Belle Fourche: August 28th 2019
- Cedar Branch #179 Buffalo: October 16th 2019
This Masonic year saw the consolidation of two Lodges within District #17. Deadwood #7 and Golden Star #9 consolidated into Deadwood Golden Star #7. This new Lodge received its charter and conducted its first official meeting on January 7th, 2020.
There has been a significant amount of degree work taken place within the District this Masonic year. Some of this work has been cut short and has yet to be completed but many new Masons have been initiated into the Fraternity and most have received all three degrees. I congratulate all District #17 Lodges on the work they have done and the support they have given each other in getting it accomplished.
One of the highlights of any District Master’s duties is the presentation of longevity awards. I have had the privilege of presenting several 50- and 60-Year pins this year and, two 70-Year presentations. The majority of the presentations have made their way into the Masonic Messenger. Congratulations to all the recipients.
